Technical Tips of the Month:
January 2004 Chainging Bed Knives

Changing Bed Knives on reel mowers is a necessary evil. Here are some tips to help make changing a bed knife a little more efficient.

• Make sure the bed bar surface is clean and free of rust.
• Make sure the bed bar threads are clean and free of rust
• Always use new screws when intsaling a new bed knife
• Tighten screws by starting in the middle of the bed knife and working your way out
• Tighten with a torque wrench - Do not use an air gun or air impact
• Once the bed knife is mounted, always back lap or grind the bed knife to assure the knife is flat and parallel with the reel.

December 2003 Record All ID Numbers

As soon as a piece of equipment (new or used) is delivered to your course or property, it is a good idea to immediately record all model, specification and serial numbers. Keep these numbers and any other significant descriptions in a safe place. These numbers can help save time when trying to identify your piece of equipment when ordering replacement parts and accessories. It will also help you verify the warranty with the manufacturer.

Remember that many pieces of equipment may have different model or specification numbers for attachments or engines. For example, a cutting unit or rotary mowing deck will have different identification numbers than the tractor that drives these units. The engine such as a Kohler, Briggs or Kubota will always have its own Model, Spec and Serial number. Be sure to record all numbers.

All original equipment manufacturers names and part numbers are used for identifiction purposes only and we are in no way implying that any of our products are orginal equipment parts. Prices subject to change without notice.
